Bluebonnet Sightings Reported to Us

Sightings reports that are sent directly to us are the heart and soul of Texas Bluebonnet Sightings. A picture or video is worth a thousand words! It’s one thing for someone to tell you where bluebonnets are, but with today’s price of gas, pictures — especially videos — tell you whether a field is worth your time and money to go out and have a looky-loo.

These sightings reports are so important to us, that we take the effort to include a Google map with every report that is sent directly to us. If your camera or cell phone is GPS enabled, we’re able to gather the GPS coordinates from your photos and videos and that makes it possible for us to provide an exact location of your report. If your camera or cell phone isn’t GPS enabled, no worries, just give us a pretty good idea of the location when you make your report.

To make a bluebonnet sightings report, send your photos and videos (as many as you like at one time) to bluebonnets@posterous.com.

For more information and the finer details on reporting your bluebonnet sightings, check out Got Bluebonnets?

Ennis Bluebonnet Alert! | They’re Still Kicking It @ Ennis!

Just got some videos in from Gina Rokas at the Ennis Visitor Center and, believe it or not, Ennis bluebonnet fields are still looking pretty decent! Poor Gina! She’s been working SO hard this year to spread the word about the Ennis Bluebonnet Trails. We can hear in her voice just how tired she is! (She’s the one narrating the videos.) Poor thing! Gina, you’ve only got two more days to get through and then you’ll have time for some rest and relaxation. Not only has she been dealing with an early bluebonnet season, as...

Ennis Bluebonnet Alert! | Andrews Road @ the Gate with the Wreath

This was a sweet little field we discovered last year on Andrews Road in Ennis, Texas. It’s located on private property with the gate that has a wreath on it. If the gate is open, then the unspoken rule is that it’s okay to go into the field. There’s a house to the right of the field that also has a wreath on the gate. We believe the two are related but it’s the field that is okay to go into if the gate is open. Last year there was a mix of Indian Paintbrushes with the bluebonnets once you crest the rise in the...

Flower Mound Bluebonnet Alert! | On the Flower Mound

Flower Mound is representin’! LOL! Thanks, Meredith Butterfield, for the bluebonnet sightings report all the way from Flower Mound, Texas. Woo Hoo! We kept hearing on Twitter there were bluebonnets on “the Flower Mound” in Flower Mound, Texas. Didn’t know if it was code for something so Meredith sent us a pic. The pictures are more than 2 1/2 weeks old — no fault of Meredith’s. If anyone checks the field out, we’d love a status update on its condition in the comments section down below. And a very...

We know these photos were taken over 2 weeks ago but unfortunately we weren’t able to post them until now. Not sure as to their status and condition. If anyone gets a chance to check on this field, we’d appreciate a status update in the comments section down below. If it has already gone to seed this year, it’s definitely worth noting in the archives for next year. We apologize, Laura Boyer, for the delay in posting. Llano Bluebonnet Alert! | FM 2323 from Llano County Line North to Llano

We’ve been bragging about FM 2323 in Llano County for the past 2 weeks. When we were there, it was absolutely gorgeous. Thanks, Nancy Phillips, for sending in this bluebonnet sightings report. As you can see from Nancy’s photos, not only do you get the bluebonnets along the roadsides, but the White Prickly Poppies are rioting in Llano County. It was on this same road that we found a field that was at least 100+ acres of nothing but White Prickly Poppies. It was the White Poppies version of the Field of Dreams.! LOL! Nancy Phillips...

Ennis Bluebonnet Alert! | NEW Field on FM 985 near Bardwell, Texas

Woo hoo! It looks like this year’s Texas bluebonnet season is never going to end in Ennis, Texas. Gina Rokas of the Ennis Visitor Center emailed us this video yesterday morning of a sweet field on FM 985 near Bardwell, Texas. She says there’s no place to take those “in” the bluebonnet pictures, it’s just a drive-by bluebonnet field. But just look at the pretty pictures you can get with this one with all those nice trees in the background! To get there you go S on Hwy 34 past downtown Ennis, cross over the Lake...

Lake Buchanan Bluebonnet Alert! | RR 690 on the Shores of Lake Buchanan

Was driving along RR 690 along the shores of Lake Buchanan and BHAM! a big ol’ field of bluebonnets comes jumping out at us. Knowing us, we had to stop and take some pictures. To get to this field, you’ll travel west on Hwy 29 from Burnet, Texas, and right before you cross Lake Buchanan’s dam, RR 690 will be the last road on the right hand side. Take a right and follow the road down a bit. When you notice the road getting close to the dried up shoreline of Lake Buchanan, look about 7:00 over your left-hand shoulder and...

This is a gorgeous view from a bridge that crosses an unnamed creek (at least on Google!) just east of Llano on Hwy 29. We believe it is the first bridge you cross when heading east out of Llano. Take a look at some really gorgeous views of Texas Hill Country pink granite, bluebonnets, and water. It is a stunning view! Be careful on this bridge. Thanks to Audrea Bailey for sending in this update on Old Settler’s Park in Round Rock. It looks as if the bluebonnets have begun to lose their shine and are beginning to dry up and set seed. There is, however, a nice patch of Indian Paintbrushes in the field. So if they’re still fresh enough, you could get a sweet photo amongst them. As they say in the movie, Twister, “We got cows!” We want everyone to get a sense of just how tall and thick the bluebonnets are in the Ennis area. Look at the cows in these pictures — the one with her head down, the bluebonnets have almost covered her entire head. On Day 2 of our Bluebonnet Extravaganza Roadtrip, we came across this sweet spot for taking those “Kids in the Bluebonnets” pics. It was on Hwy 71 coming out of Austin right at the entrance to Paleface Ranch subdivision. They’ve maintained the patch for Kodak moments because they’ve taken the time to cut little trails to walk and not trample the bluebonnets. These photos were taken on March 31st so we are unsure of their condition as of April 10th. It’s worth a try if you’re in the area. Behind the fence...

On our way to our Mom’s house in Belton, we decided to cruise by the West Adams Avenue field that was pretty popular a couple of weeks ago and ran into Adria Crooke photographing her daughter in the bluebonnets. The caretakers of the cemetery obviously love wildflowers because they’ve been very careful about mowing and keeping the bluebonnets in clumps. There are several cemetery plots where the bluebonnet blanket is THICK! At this reporting, the grasses and weeds in the bluebonnet clumps are getting a bit high so if you want to get some pics, go soon! If not, keep this one in mind for future seasons and if you time your visit right, you’ll come away...

Big bluebonnet field for a big boy! Looks like a sweet field for all our Plano/Richardson/McKinney peeps. And by the looks of the young man, it’s kid-approved and safe. Enjoy!   Note: Jennifer, we weren’t playing favorites between your children. We used this photo of your son because it showed the size and condition of the field. Unfortunately, your daughter’s photo didn’t show the bluebonnet field. If you find another field to report, or you do an update of this field, photograph your daughter but be sure we can...

OMG!! It looks like it’s going to be a spectacular year in Ennis! Talked to Gina @ the Ennis Visitor Center and … she doesn’t use these words lightly … they are predicting an absolute banner year … they’re saying better than 2007. They shot this video today and they say the bluebonnets have not even begun to peak. They’re predicting the first two weeks of April. Let’s pray the grasses stay down!! It’s a short video but a pretty one. More to come! :...

New Braunfels Bluebonnet Alert! Sweet Field @ Loop 337 and Landa Street

Another gorgeous picture from Cathy Alba! You rock, girl! Did you take the picture with your iphone or did you just send it to us from your iphone? And if the bees really are vanishing like some people...
